From High School Drop Out to Home Based Super Star!
This is a homebased business superstar you are going to want to meet. Like so many of us, she struggled with kids, bills and felt like she was getting nowhere in life. Then, she found a product she liked and she started a business with no skills, no training, an extreme case of shyness and still changed her life. Now, she has risen to the top. This is a story of someone whose passion for working hard and being herself has made her a huge winner. Meet Heidi Whitehair.
Home-Based Buzz: Tell us about your life before you started a home-based business.
Heidi: We were just living life raising kids, living paycheck to pay check, normal stuff. You know raising three kids and just life in general. I started a daycare and had done it for 10 years at that point. I did it through being single with one child and then married Ken, and we had the daycare for the next, oh, gosh what would that be? Six more years, after that.
Home-Based Buzz: So you had never been in business or sales or marketing or anything like that?
Heidi: No way! I started working when I was 13 years old. I tried to work out of school and that stuff and help raise my younger brothers and sisters. I ended up dropping out of high school as a junior in high school, went on to work, got married when I was 23 and had my first child at 25. I started my daycare to stay home with her and be a stay at home mom.
You do not have to be perfect, you do not have to be professional, you have to be real.
Home-Based Buzz: So how did you start a home-based business? What gave you the idea for that?
Heidi: It’s a crazy story. I was on a field trip with my middle daughter at the Pumpkin Patch with her preschool class. I met a couple of moms and was talking with them about this vitamin and it intrigued me. It gave me enough of an interest to invite the girl to my house and where she told me about this amazing product. I started at the very next day and really the rest is history.
Home-Based Buzz: That’s funny so you went into the pumpkin patch a stay at home mom and came out a stay at home small business owner! Where were you and Ken at that time?
Heidi: When I found the company, we were definitely barely getting by. I had credit card debt like a lot of people do. In order to go on a vacation or do anything extra for our family, we’d go into debt, put it on a credit card. Ken worked every overtime shift he could. He had a side business when we first got married so we definitely were doing all the things that we needed to do to financially pay our bills and all of that, but never to get ahead. The daycare was definitely something I had to do to help make ends meet, and it was a great way for me to stay home with my kids. After 10 years, it had run its course and so when I found this company and the opportunity presented itself, I ran with it.
Home-Based Buzz: So, you just jumped into it?
Heidi: When I found this company and this business, I thought there’s no way. I don’t talk to people, I don’t go anywhere, I’m stuck home with children. How am I going to find anyone that would even want to hear about this? I had no business background. I had no reason to be successful. In fact, I probably had lots of reasons to not be successful.
Home-Based Buzz: Like what?
Heidi: Being shy. I knew nothing about this industry, nothing about nutritional supplements. I did know I loved the products. I loved how I felt and I knew I could share them with other people – and talking is free. I just shared with my heart what happened to me, and my friends noticed and they wanted it. I just said “Hey it worked for me, it might work for you.” What I learned was when you believe in something and something changes you, it becomes more about that and less about you.
When you’re more positive and happier in your life then doors open
Home-Based Buzz: When did you first taste some success?
Heidi: My sponsor came the very first time to do the meeting and it was a complete flop. She talked all of this technical stuff and I didn’t even know what she was talking about. A layperson like for me wasn’t qualified to talk medically or any of that kind of stuff. I remember talking to Ken after the meeting, and he said “Just share from your heart.”. The next meeting I had, I sold $2,000 for the products because that’s what I did. I stood in front of the room, and I said, “See this? This is how I felt.” It just went crazy after that.
Home-Based Buzz: What did you learn that night?
Heidi: What I learned from that is, you do not have to be perfect, you do not have to be professional, you have to be real. People have a bias detector and they know when you’re trying to sell them something, and it was not about selling for me it’s about sharing something amazing.
I just started inviting friends, family, neighbours, anyone that had made comments about how I looked or noticed the difference. My first experience on just being excited. People bought my excitement. That was it. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing but I loved the products and I shared my results. You can’t go wrong sharing something that’s the truth, right? The truth is the truth, and no one can argue with that.
I will tell you, when people get started on the products, they feel better about themselves, and when people feel better about themselves, life changes for you. You’re a better mom, a better wife, better at your job you’re happier. When you’re more positive and happier in your life then doors open that’s just my opinion. Then you start sharing with your friends and family because you feel so amazing you want them to as well. Then, the business opportunities kind of reveals itself, so to speak, then you kind of start. I always tell people the vision gets bigger with time.

Home-Based Buzz: Do you think you are somehow special, to have all the success, to be able to have all the success?
Heidi: No special powers, no special nothing, same products, same marketing plans, same 24 hour day. I just believe in myself, I believe in the company, I believe in the marketing plan, and why wouldn’t I? Let your body tell you what you need to know about the products. Business opportunity is crazy amazing because our products are crazy amazing.
Home-Based Buzz: What is your advice to someone who is thinking about getting into a home-based business opportunity?
Heidi: I understand why people are sceptical about network marketing because they don’t know what they don’t know. When people don’t know something, they automatically go to the negative. But Network Marketing is just simply cutting out all the middlemen and putting money back in the pockets of the distributor. It’s just basically we share our product, we buy a wholesale from the company and we sell retail so that’s one level of income, and then you build a workforce.
I meet people from all over the country. Some people live in the country, some people live in the city, educational backgrounds, from one spectrum to the other. I think it is important to understand that people that succeed in this business understand they belong to something bigger than themselves. When people come and say to me “I’m not a salesperson”. I say awesome then you’ll do great with us because I wasn’t a salesperson. It’s not about making a sale, it’s about sharing something that impacted you.
This is the most fun I’ve ever had. It is the most positive business. If you are not having fun, you’re completely doing it wrong. You meet the most amazing people. You’re changing people’s lives, first off, obviously with the products, but also with the business opportunity. Building a business in this industry, it goes around your life. It can take the place of your existing job or pay check or whatever the case may be. Then it grows with you, with whatever you want. It’s up to you.
